At Yarn Twigs & Tails, the safety of our customers is important to us. Below you'll find full safety information for each of our product ranges.

Crochet Products — Safety Information

Materials Used

  • Yarn: Yarnsmiths Chenille Chunky, 100% polyester
  • Body filling: Habico Multi Purpose Non-Allergenic Washable Polyester Filling (Fire Safety Standard BS5852, Cleanliness BS1425, European Standard EN71 Part 3)
  • Weighted base filling: Celloexpress Round Plastic Poly Pellets, contained in an organza bag
  • Eyes: Trimits plastic safety eyes with washers, securely fitted. Choking hazard — contains small parts. Not suitable for children under 14.
  • Decorative: Wooden "Handmade with Love" button, featured on all crochet items

Age Suitability

All crochet door stops are intended for decorative use and are suitable for ages 14 and over. They are not suitable for young children. Keep away from babies and small children.

Care Instructions

  • Spot clean only with a gentle wipe using warm water
  • Do not machine wash
  • Do not tumble dry
  • Do not iron
  • Do not bleach

Safety Testing

Some of our poor crochet animals was dropped, pulled, sat on, and even had a flame waved at her — all in the name of safety.

But in all seriousness, before any product type goes on sale at Yarn Twigs & Tails, a sample item is put through its paces. Each one is tested as a complete finished item and must pass:

  • Drop testing — because accidents happen!
  • Weight and pull testing — seams, eyes and fastenings are put under real stress
  • Fire resistance testing — yarn, filling, weighted pellets, safety eyes and wooden buttons are all tested

Testing is carried out once per product type using the same materials throughout. We only retest if we change brands or materials — which we have no current plans to do. If you'd like to see our testing videos or documentation, just get in touch — we love sharing our process!

Handmade Notice

All crochet items are handmade by Michelle at Yarn Twigs & Tails. Slight variations in colour, size and finish are a natural and charming part of the handmade process.

Wooden Plaque Products — Safety Information

Materials Used

  • Wood: Pine (supplied by Timber Works)
  • Base coat: Frenchic Furniture Paint, The Lazy Range — water-based, self-priming, no added VOCs. Certified Toy Safe to EN71-3:2013+A3:2019. Ingredients: Chalk, Clay, Titanium Dioxide, Resin, Talcum Preservative, Wax
  • Colour paint: GoodHome Walls & Ceilings Paint — water-based, Low VOC
  • Topcoat/sealant: GoodHome Furniture Finishing Lacquer, Clear Satin — Low VOC (max 50g/L)

Age Suitability

Suitable for all ages. All wooden plaques are intended for decorative wall or shelf display only and are not toys.

Wood Finish

Our plaques are made from natural pine and are handcrafted by Michelle at Yarn Twigs & Tails. As with all natural wood products, some plaques may have slightly uneven or rough edges — this is a natural characteristic of the wood and not a defect. All plaques are checked to ensure there are no splinters before dispatch.

Care Instructions

  • Wipe clean only with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth
  • Do not submerge in water
  • Keep away from direct heat or prolonged sunlight to preserve the finish
